MusicforYoungChildren (MYC)

Group classes of 3 to 5 children with parents. Parent participation is required in all MYC programs – this is part of the great success of MYC! It’s a wonderful way to spend quality time with your child, and give them the gift of music. All classes are 60 minutes, except Sunrise. These classes are for beginners. Level 2 classes will be offered in 2016.

At the end of the program, MYC Moonbeams 3 graduates are prepared for Grade One conservatory exams and have late elementary or early intermediate piano performance and theory!

Sunrise – ages 2 to 3 – a fun 45-minute class full of singing, rhythm, movement, and activities. This exciting and innovative pre-school program helps children develop listening awareness, fine motor skills, attention span, and social skills. Puppet friends Buzz, Buddy Croak, and Mellow guide children on their musical journey with songs and games that include singing, rhythm, and ear training.

Sunshine 1 – ages 3 & 4 – Rhythm, keyboard, theory, composition, singing and fun, all in an age-appropriate program. In this, the youngest of the keyboard programs, the children experience large muscle movement in beat and rhythms, as well as refining fine motor skills in rhythm instrument ensembles. By the end of the first year, Sunshines are playing C major and middle C positions, and reading from the staff.

Sunbeams1 – ages 5 & 6. Vocabulary development is the focus for this age group – at this stage we introduce big kid lyrics to introduce concepts, finger numbers, and keyboard geography. Songs and games are used to reinforce listening.

Moonbeams1 – ages 7 to 9. The older beginner program is designed to support the students’ growing sense of independence. Reading becomes the primary focus for gathering information, while the songs, ensembles, and keyboard repertoire incorporate early piano literature, folk songs, technique and harmonization.

MusicMyChoice 1 – ages 10 and up – parents do not have to attend the entire class, but are required to help keep track of homework and provide encouragement for home practice.

Private Lessons:

  • Private – one student per lesson. Weekly 30-minute lessons.
  • Partner – two students share a 30-minute lesson, usually of similar age and skill level. Weekly lessons.

Tuition Structure:

Tuition fees are payable monthly. Remember, music lessons for kids are tax-deductible! Tax receipts will be provided on request.

Annual registration fee: This fee covers books and materials. Siblings in the same level may share some (but not all) books – costs will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Book costs are dependent on student level and program goals.

Payment: Monthly payment is due on or before the 1st day of each month. View the MYC Studio Policies for payment and other important details. Private students studio policies are here.
